Just wondering what everyone else thought of Spike's songwriting. I never really noticed before, but a lot of my favourite Cross songs have been written by him, I guess he just got a bit overlooked because so many of the band's tracks were written by Roger.
Here are some of the tracks written by him:
Closer To You Dirty Mind Baby It's Alright Put It All Down To Love Hand Of Fools
What do you think?

"Hand of fools" and "Baby it's alright" are 2 absolute gems! and perfect for Roger's voice. Funny how he wrote "Baby it's alright" and "Dirty mind" too - 2 faces of a medal (I mean for their different attitude...listen to them AND look at the lyrics LOL). I wonder if he gave up writing completely - saw him at the "46664" as a musical director, and of course he was on stage with Queen lately , but I don't think he's still writing...just like Josh is a drummer no more, "just" Roger's producer.

"Baby It's Alright" is one if not the all-time favorite track by The Cross IMHO. I love it.

Put It All Down To Love is one of my favour, along with Dirty Mind. When you look at that list, you realise how good a writer Spike is.
He's a versatile guy though. I heard he had a big part in the putting together of Queen's set at Wembley 86 among other shows, so if people like Roger, Brian, Freddie and John were asking his advice, he MUST be good!

I remember an interviw with him recalling his debut with the band in 1984. During rehearsals of Radio Ga Ga...the track went to pieces with the band struggling to remember the chords etc... Spike informed them that he knew the track and proceeded to 'keep them right'. He's never looked back since.

Haha, great Spike! ;D Now I can see why he became the musical director for a huge event like "46664". Thanks for sharing the info!

Spike is great and some of those songs are definitely the best on the albums such as Baby It's Alright
