Broken up into two sections: your favourite singers for their sheer ability and range, and your favourite for the actual sound of their voice (often two very different things).
Singers (ability) 1 - Michael Ball 2 - Glenn Hughes 3 - Freddie Mercury 4 - Jorn Lande 5 - Joe Lynn Turner
Singers (sound) 1 - Roger Taylor 2 - Eric Martin 3 - David Coverdale 4 - Tom Jones 5 - Joe Lynn Turner

Wow, I won't be able to create 2 cathegories like you did - I tend to react emotionally to the voices I like, meaning that I can't separate range from sound so easily...My first 3 (at least) would have to be the same in both lists...so I'll make only one:
1)Freddie 2)Roger 3)Billy Joel 4)Annie Lennox (BTW: awesome in the "46664" performance!) 5)mmmh...this could vary...Joe C o c k e r is the first name that comes to my mind right now! (Sorry I had to spell his name like that, but the board censored me ;D).

It's cool that you like Billy too! I've been a fan of his since I was a teen-ager.

Good choice! Ronnie is a god, and I felt bad for him not making my list! JG I would agree with that. I also think it's a shame for Dio he gets overlooked all the time. But the range his voice has is amazing. I prefer Black Sabbath with Dio at the helm.. He is a one off.

Sabbath with Dio were great - and Dio in their own right are quality. Have you seen the Holy Diver live DVD? Not bad for a guy in his sixties - and he has a cold and wasn't happy with his performance on the show! Unbelievable. A true rock legend, and responsible for at least three classic studio albums, with three different bands. "Heaven and Hell", "Rising" and "Holy Diver"... three of the best albums I own.

No I haven't seen the DVD though I hope to be getting it very soon.(I do have the CD of Holy Diver Live) I too think it's amazing how this guy sounds when you consider how old he is (And Short ). It seems he's been going forever. My Personal fave albums from different parts of his career would have to be Dio--THE LAST IN LINE Rainbow--LONG LIVE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL and Black Sabbath--HEAVEN AND HELL. Have you ever herd his early stuff with ELF?
